I wanted to reach out and share a little private personal information now that I'm on the other side of the event.

I started this company based on personal health issues I've experienced and fortunately, I was able to not only create a way to help myself but thousands of others which is a fantastic feeling.

Over the past two years, I've been nursing a condition that I knew eventually would lead to surgery. In November 2014 I had my right hip replaced because of bone deterioration and loss over time. That surgery was a raging success!

But only a few years later I began to experience the same symptoms with my left hip. I decided to wait it out and manage with medication as long as I could. 2017 was a particularly hard year due to the advanced stage and phase of bone loss in my left hip. I became increasingly less energetic, tired, and less focused.

By the beginning of November 2017 I was beginning to spend more time in bed and less time anywhere else due to the excruciating pain. And once Thanksgiving arrived I was becoming "bedridden."

We decided surgery was an absolute necessity to reverse my declining health and scheduled to meet with an Orthopedic Surgeon after the New Year. He was amazed I had endured as much bone loss as I had for so long... We scheduled left hip replacement on 2/13/18.

The surgery went very well, the doctor too about twice as long due to the sizeable amount of extra work to complete the procedure.

I am six days post-surgery today, I am sitting at my desk, I am walking about a mile a day since last Saturday which was only four days post-surgery.

I'm walking with a cane, slowly but it's a huge improvement. I appreciate all of you who know me that have reached out with your thoughts and prayers.

Plantar fasciotomy is often considered after conservative treatment has failed to resolve the issue after six months and is viewed as a last resort. Minimally invasive and endoscopic approaches to plantar fasciotomy exist but require a specialist who is familiar with certain equipment. The availability of these surgical techniques is currently limited. A 2012 study found 76% of patients who underwent endoscopic plantar fasciotomy had complete relief of their symptoms and had few complications (level IV evidence). Heel spur removal during plantar fasciotomy has not been found to improve the surgical outcome.

Plantar heel pain may occur for multiple reasons and release of the lateral plantar nerve branch may be performed alongside the plantar fasciotomy in select cases. Possible complications of plantar fasciotomy include nerve injury, instability of the medial longitudinal arch of the foot, fracture of the calcaneus, prolonged recovery time, infection, rupture of the plantar fascia, and failure to improve the pain. Coblation surgery has recently been proposed as alternative surgical approaches for the treatment of recalcitrant Plantar Fasciitis.

UNPROVEN TREATMENTS

Botulinum Toxin A injections as well as similar techniques such as platelet-rich plasma injections and prolotherapy remain controversial.

Dry needling is also being researched for treatment of Plantar Fasciitis. A systematic review of available research found limited evidence of effectiveness for this technique. The studies were reported to be inadequate in quality and too diverse in methodology to enable reaching a firm conclusion.

WHAT DOES NOT HELP | GIMMICKS

Family doctors, in particular, are not prepared to treat Plantar Fasciitis or any other musculoskeletal condition

Podiatrists (foot doctors) especially in North America, where podiatrists are mainly focused on surgical procedures often provide poor quality advice about chronic repetitive strain injuries like Plantar Fasciitis, Iliotibial Syndrome, or Shin Splints. In all fairness, a limited few take a special interest in these conditions, but most do not, and the occasional tough case of Plantar Fasciitis is not on their radar - understandable but unfortunate.

Physical Therapist can be the overall best bet for overall Plantar Fasciitis in conjunction with treatments which provide support, stabilization, and elongation of the Plantar Fascia Ligament care but often lack the skill, experience, and ability to treat tough cases

Improperly sized insoles and orthotics may contribute to other ailments such as back or perhaps hip pain

Loosely fitting compression socks, compression sleeves or improperly applied wrapping and taping may as well be counterproductive

In today's fast-paced society when everything seems to be based on speed, there is increasing stress and pressure to be aligned and time-bound.

With that, to make schedules fit and timeliness our key priority (considering there are so many clock ticks in a day), something has to be given up to meet time-bound requirements.

We all have monitoring devices at work or at home to remind us of commitments, schedules, meetings and so on. Yet, in many instances, for the most part, we do not as a whole give much consideration into what we are fueling ourselves with. In fact in most cases (confirmed with rapidly expanding and growth of fast-food chains) eating is a low priority in terms of nutrition and benefit.

What seems to be happening with the rapid growth and expansion of unhealthy foods to consume are conditions our bodies are having to serve as a warning. It's certainly reasonable that certain illness can be directly linked back to consumption.

As individuals, there is a whole host and range of reasons for conditions and illness; so why not consider this as a contributing factor with Plantar Fasciitis? If this occurs frequently or over a prolonged period, damage to the can outpace the ability of the tissue to rebuild and repair itself, resulting in irritation and inflammation.

Hurricane Irma - Afterward

I am a native Floridian and have experienced many major hurricanes in my lifetime and Irma just became the new baseline to measure all. This hurricane set all sorts of records in terms of size, category, the number of citizens displaced, homes destroyed or damaged, without water, electricity, internet, flooded streets, homes, bridge and road failure, trees, roofs, all kinds of debris strewn everywhere and vehicles damaged. Our friends, neighbors, and family are truly suffering.

We began to experience the force of Hurrican Irma around 3 pm on Sunday, September 10. It became much more hostile at about 8 pm. We were not clear about the direction it would take until after midnight which is when we lost power.

We had done all we could do to prepare for the storm in terms of provisions, medical supplies, water, and so forth. We lost power at about Midnight Sunday, September 10 and waited until Monday morning to assess damage and wire in a generator. We have limited power (not enough to run AC but enough to operate essentials like fans, television, computers, refrigerator, microwave, and freezer. We by no means are complaining and are very happy with the outcome which could have been much more extreme. Yes, we received roof damage, property damage and some flooding inside the premises, we can live with it and are patiently waiting for the most important modern life convenience, air conditioning... :-)

All is Well in Florida...

We are located in Winter Park, Florida which is just north of Orlando, Florida. Hurricane Irma remains at least a day and one-half away from our premises. It's our expectation to lose power for a period of time, which has been our experience when Hurricane Charley and Jeanne ran over us in 2004. We lost power in each case for over a week. In the case of Charley, it was a direct hit. We had all sorts of debris in the neighborhood and surrounding area, no flooding, thankfully.

Irma is moving slower than previous hurricanes and a bit more powerful. Our website (because our website lives in the cloud...) will be functional 24/7/365. Our onsite terminals may or may not be up depending on the intensity of Irma when we are hit...

We will post an advisory as soon as possible after 9/11/17 when the storm passes, provided we have the power to communicate.
